The Summer girl socks are knitted from the cuff down. They are started with a provisional cast on and ribbing, then the cuffs are folded double and joined with a three-needle join. The main part of the socks is knitted in stockinette stitch. The heel flaps are knitted with a reinforced stitch pattern for durability and the heels are round French heels. Instructions are given for modifying the gusset for a more generous fit. At the end stitches are picked up from the cuffs for the ruffles. All techniques used are explained in the pattern.
